I was hosted by H.E. Mrs. Kristina Alyson Kvien, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Armenia.
I reflected on the current situation, security threats and challenges of Armenia and Artsakh.
Speaking about the difficult conditions prevailing in Artsakh, I emphasized that there is no alternative to recognizing the right to self-determination for the people of Artsakh: this approach stands as the sole solution capable of preventing a genocide in Artsakh. Touching upon the tension along the borders of Armenia, I shared my personal example of how, together with my family, I have spent nights under fire in my hometown Vardenis.
I presented to Mrs. Ambassador the accurate depiction and threats to democracy in Armenia. In particular, I highlighted how the ruling "Civil Contract" faction “has occupied” the National Assembly of the RA. I also addressed the issue of political prisoners in Armenia, citing the case of Armen Ashotyan, Vice President of the Republican Party of Armenia, along with other challenges to human rights.
"One of the vivid manifestations of pseudo-democracy is evident in the ongoing Yerevan mayoral elections, tainted by deceit. Government officials in Armenia are overwhelmingly engaged in the pre-election campaign of Tigran Avinyan, the candidate of the ruling power. Unequal competitive conditions have been created for other candidates of Yerevan Mayor. The election frauds have already started," I stressed in my speech.
During our conversation with Mrs. Kvien, I also delved into different other matters of mutual interest. I extend my gratitude to Ambassador Kvien for the invitation and for her attentive consideration of all the questions I raised.
